On Wednesday, I was at the Nurburgring to witness !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Today, we’ve got the in-car video from that first attempt at a fifth-generation Viper ‘Ring lap record. It’s a wild ride.
Pretty crazy this was his FIRST hot lap. Team is returning in August to try more runs and beat this first attempt.
They had some bad luck with rain on their 1hr timeslot they purchased with crowdfunded money.
Can’t wait to see what this thing can run after more track time at full speed in August!

why does your title say unofficial when the video says official

If it’s not a production lap record I dont care. Not to be negative Nancy but, really Road & Track? Fastest time for RWD, Manual, production car, who cares? Sorry to OP for the rant, anyways that’s is still a very fast time, kudos to him.

What is not a “production car lap record” about a bone stock Viper ACR....

Sorry, I should have clarified. I meant did it beat the current production lap record for any production car, for me thats news worthy. For instance when the Honda Civic type-r set the fwd record, my reaction was cool, its fast but it just doesn’t get me excited.

I have literally no doubt whatsoever that properly run, this car will set the production car record. ACRs are just stupidly, incorrectly fast.

I agree, pretty crazy just how fast this purpose built car is from the factory. Sad they are now discontinued but will be interesting to see what time they are able to set when they return in August!

Well the currect record held by the Huracan Performante is controversial and is said to be rigged. Also to add to the questions why was this lap time recorded in 2016 by a pre-production car and the car still has yet to be released to the public. One more the tires used are probably not stock on the car once it gets sold to public.
This ACR run is a car bought through a dealership and is completely stock including the stock tires.
I think you get excited by fake news sir...

Oh I didn’t realize there was another claimant to the record. I was referring to what I believe is the accepted current record set by the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Yeah the Huracan Performante is the current. Let’s wait to see in August when the Viper ACR does some more runs to see if it can knock the Porsche off the throne :D

It might, but in this case I’m inclined to to think the engineering marvel of the 918 is where it’s at. I wonder if they were able to program the 918 to have different behavior in different sections of the track, I remember in the video of the Porsches run that he was changing ride settings in some sections.

That was terrifying. I don’t have any urge to try that nor to even ride along.

Any guesses how much gasoline he’d have burned in those 7-3/4 minutes?
